PillowFace?

So, what is PillowFace?  Or better yet, whom?  PillowFace was a central character in an exploitation movie I wrote back in 2005, that was filmed in 2007 and produced by Chuck Renaud, then finally released on DVD back in June of 2011.  The movie was called Psycho Holocaust.

You may purchase this movie to the left of this website.  Click the icon with PillowFace and it will take you right to Amazon where you can get it.

The three "Psychos" from PH were my absolute favorite part of the movie, but we didn't have the time to let the audience get to know who they were.  I mean - we explained a little of their back stories, but didn't delve too much and believe me, there was A LOT of background we could have had fun with.  These were characters that have been in my head for the better part of seven years now, so the idea to come back to them and see what they were up to was always there.  I just never thought to do it as a book.  I  have two scripts written - one a continuation of Psycho Holocaust, and the other is a prequel.  I'm not saying these will never happen, but there's a good chance those movies will never get made.  It's a sad fact, but a real one.

Almost four years ago I wrote the first draft of my first book, Angel Board, and when I finished I immediately went to work on another.  That book was PillowFace.  It was a story that had been floating in my head for a while, and I couldn't ignore it any longer.  So, I wrote it, and although it's much longer than Angel Board, I believe I completed it in half the time.  Then, much like Angel Board, it was put away for a long time before I took another crack at it.

During the rewrites many things changed, and I took my time with the character development, focusing a great deal on why PillowFace is the way he is, what his motivations are, and frankly, why he's called PillowFace.  I also explain who Buddy Right is, and how he became the leader of this misfit gang, and I also delved into Carp's sick mind, which I'm ashamed to admit, was kind of fun.  The book reads as a sort of  prequel, but more of a companion piece.  However, if I had to nail down a timeline, I'd say this story takes place a year or so before Psycho Holocaust, but then again, maybe it didn't.  If you've never seen the movie, don't worry, you don't need to, but I would recommend it.

Now, PillowFace will be unleashed unto the eBook and Paperback world very soon, possibly as early as March.  I really hope you enjoy it.  I'm very happy with how the book turned out.  There's a lot of fun things for horror fans such as myself in it.

Here's a plot rundown:

Joel Olsen is twelve years old and loves all things devoted to horror.
Movies, comics, books, and of course his true passion – special effects.
Being raised by his older sister Haley after the sudden death of their parents,
Joel is in a world truly of his own.

Then at the launch of summer vacation, an unexpected friendship threatens
to turn that world upside down.  Joel finds lying bloodied and near death in
his backyard a masked man that is the epitome of what he adores.
A flesh and blood slasher maniac!

When he invites this masked man into his home to recover from his wounds,
Joel quickly realizes what he’s actually done is become the key element in a
true to life horror tale that he’ll be lucky to survive.  This maniac, who Joel
learns is called PillowFace, has others that are searching for him, and they
will go to great and bloody lengths to find him.

I had intended to do a contest where my readers would get to pick the cover, but since I've posted both of them on FaceBook and Twitter, the choice is already obvious, plus the recommendations from author buddies, I don't believe the contest is necessary.  You have already told me which cover you want to see on the front of the book.  And what cover is that?

This one.

I'm glad the response to this cover has been very positive, and I hope the enthusiasm carries over into the finished product.  Keep checking with this page for further updates on PillowFace.
